Century Motorsport are about to embark on their maiden weekend in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge at Oulton Park this weekend.
Having joined the team for the final round of the Ginetta GT Supercup in Brands Hatch last October, Japanese driver Osamu Kawashima returns to the team for his first full championship season in the UK in a Ginetta G40. “I drove the Ginetta for the first time at the test session on Media day. Because of a new car, we needed to adjust some points. In the last session, my car changed into the best condition with the great help of the team. I’m really excited about the entry into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge,” said Osamu.
Joining Kawashima at Century Motorsport will be Danish youngster Frederik Mortensen. Graduating from the Swedish JTCC Clio Cup, Mortensen also driving his new Ginetta G40 for the first time at the Ginetta Media day, highlighted how easy the car was to drive: “It’s been a bit of a task getting to grips with it as it’s my first rear wheel driven racecar since my karting days. Still, it feels really easy to drive, yet a handful to master.” Frederik went on to add that he feels there will be plenty of tough competition this season: “My first impression of the championship is there will be lots of tough competition with loads of experienced and talented drivers. I have a feeling that we will be seeing lots of close and intense racing this season. The cars are great and the support from Ginetta adds a little extra to the experience!”
Century Motorsport Team Principal Nathan Freke is excited about the team’s expansion into the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge: “I’ve always been keen to develop a team that has a ladder to work your way gradually up the ranks to something really competitive like British GT. We’ve proven that we can win in every championship we have ever raced in and the Ginetta GT5 Challenge will be no exception to that. Frederik and Osamu have settled into the team really well so far and I’m sure we’ll see at least one of them on the podium this year on more than one occasion.”
The 2014 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge begins at Oulton Park this weekend for rounds one, two and three on Saturday 19th April.
