County Down native Jennifer Mullan will make history by becoming the first lady to drive in the Formula Sheane Championship, at her home circuit Bishopscourt on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th May.

The newly energised championship is showing great promise this season with boosted grid numbers and increased competitiveness thanks to the efforts of Ireland’s leading Motorsport commentator Leo Nulty. After some brief testing earlier this year, Jennifer immediately felt right at home with the unique characteristics of the car and found it perfectly suited her driving style.

For 2012, Jennifer will compete in a selected number of Formula Sheane rounds including Bishopscourt in May and the Phoenix Park Motor Races in August, ahead of a planned full championship assault in 2013. Commenting on the announcement, Jennifer expressed her delight in competing at her home circuit, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at a circuit just down the road from where I grew up. Since testing the car earlier this year, I’ve worked really hard to put a deal together and I’m delighted to be returning to Sheane Cars, a team I raced with at the very start of my racing career.”

Jennifer would like to say a special word of thanks to Leo Nulty, David Sheane of Sheane Cars and Paul Grogan of P1 Digital for helping to make this all happen. Also a special mention to encourage everyone to take part in the Formula Sheane Charity Walk around Mondello Park on Saturday June 9th in aid of the wonderful ‘Make-A-Wish’ Foundation.
